Sigh. Sigh.

I didn't care about this episode either way. I didn't like it, but I'm not enraged by it. Well, okay, I am a little enraged. I thought the plot was silly. I don't like that Miss Evangalista had to be ugly in order to be smart. I didn't like how River and Donna's ideal worlds = kids. I don't like that River is speshul enough to know the Doctor's name, for whatever reason it was, marriage, sex, he says his own name when he tells a particular joke that he only tells to people he really really likes, whatever. I'm usually impressed with Moffat's episodes. Even though I didn't like all of GitF, I thought it was well written. This two parter was just really disappointing. It wasn't scary, and the way he got rid of the monsters was lame and abrupt.

I doubt that River will come back, but she is locked into the Doctor's future now no matter what, and I don't like that. I don't like the inevitability of it and how Moffat made it so his character will be in the Doctor's timeline as a super speshul person no matter what, and he didn't even have to develop the fucking character. That really fucking pisses me off. I also don't like the idea of a Who OTP, I may like other pairings more than others but I think they're all pretty equal as pairings go, no one is more special, and now Doctor/River is pretty damn close to a show OTP.

Well, since DW canon is so a la carte, I suppose I can just forget it happened.

I wish I could look forward to Moffat taking over in 2010, but I just can't. He hasn't changed his formula for his episodes at all, and it's just coming off as lazy.

I didn't like how River and Donna's ideal worlds = kids. A)It's SM, I can't remember what he said once but it's got a few people up in arms, it's about women... that's all I know. B)I was a bit surprised by this, because 1)Donna is basically willing to forget a normal life- as evidenced by the "forever" comment she made to Martha and 2)She seemed to give up on love, marriage, children right after that fiasco with Lance. C)Donna was at one point interested in marriage, not necessarily children, but marriage and I could see that bit of her personality sticking around the dark corners of her mind.
If we stuck Rose and Martha in Donna and River's positions, I doubt it would be so similar.

I doubt that River will come back, but she is locked into the Doctor's future now no matter what, and I don't like that. Hear hear!

Agreed. I was really, really disappointed by these last two episodes. Such a bummer, man.

Yeah, this is the first time this series that I couldn't find one thing to squee over. :/ It was just so meh.

Yeah, that kind of bugged me, too.

Here through [livejournal.com profile] who_daily and I clicked on your review because I was desperate to find other people who were furious with the two-parter as much as I was. I found myself nodding through every line of your review. Just like you, I'll ignore those two episodes, and I'm crossing my fingers that next week will bring back our fantastic series 4 properly.

I was doing that too, I was shocked to see how many people loved that episode. Eh well, different strokes for different folks.

I'm actually really looking forward to next week's episode, I'm not sure why, maybe I'm just being unrealistically optimistic. :P

I'm also looking forward to next week's ep. I need a proper DW episode, one that makes me squee the way the beginning of the series did. Plus we're heading closer to the end, and if RTD messes that up it's going to ruin a great deal of things for me. He better not.

Ditto. I posted a rant to my LJ last week, after watching part 1, pointing out all the themes that Moffat repeats in his episodes. EC/TDD was brilliant because it was the first time those themes were used. As every one of them has been repeated more than once, it's getting very, very tedious - particularly what Moffat does with the companion (pushes them aside to showcase his shiny original character, never to be referred to again) and with series/season continuity (ignores it if it doesn't fit with what he wants to do).

As for the Doctor's name being something he'd only tell someone in very specific circumstances, that's completely Moffat talking through his arse. It's not Classic Who canon. It even contradicts this season - in The Fires of Pompeii it's stated that the Doctor's name is 'lost'. Not just something he never tells anyone, but actually lost.

I can see I'll have to find another TV series to focus on, because at this rate once Moffat's in charge my Who love is going to vanish.
