I worked on my paper all day, and now I'm taking a break until tomorrow. I wrote about nine pages, and I'm pretty sure I like what I've written so far. I am so close to being done with this semester. So so so so close.

We've been watching a looot of horror movies since last night. Jasie came over and we watched The Candyman and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and today we watched The Exorcist and a cute zombie movie called Dance of the Dead. Now we're wataching Hellraiser, which is a pretty fucked up movie. Next we're going to watch John Carpenter's The Thing and then Shark Attack 3 for the lulz. Oh, we also watched the Twilight rifftrax again because Jasie hadn't seen it yet. I love that Rifftrax. Also, I think I would watch an entire movie about Jasper and Alice. I like those two, mostly because Jasper's so strung out. He makes me laugh everytime I see him.

I can't believe I'm not going to be here next weekend. I can't believe I'm going to be in London next weekend. That is just too insane.

so, I fear change, but I got a dreamwidth account because I signed up with an OpenID a while ago.

If you have an account there go add me! Posthaste!

I did my Political Ideologies final today, and now all I have to do is finish my Gender and Mass Media paper before Monday at midnight. And then I can focus on packing for LONDON! I'm leaving in a week! AAAAAAAAAHHHHH!

My Gender and Mass Media paper has turned into an analysis of a Buffy episode, The Body. I'm writing about how because of Joyce's death, the boundaries in feminine and masculine space stopped being sharp and clearly defined. The exterior invaded the interior and space became more tactile and less neutral, the boundary between the audience and the show became less distinct, and the supernatural boundary of the invite barrier became insignificant in the episode, even though it was still technically there. I am geeking out so hard over this paper. So hard.

Oh, crap. I just found out that there's a Comparative Literature class in the fall all about Hell. Dude. Dude. It looks SO AWESOME! Inferno, Dr. Faustus, Paradise Lost, South Park, Neil Gaiman. Dude. I don't know if I should take it or not. I was planning on three gender studies classes and a film studies class because the film studies class would probably be easy. This class though, looks so amazing, and apparently the professor is awesome. Oh man. Quandary.

  • Today I only had to go to one class, and it only lasted about 20 minutes, and after that I went to the zoo with [livejournal.com profile] staci_lou_16 and her boyfriend. Today was just such a beautiful day, it was in the high 70s all day and it was just fantastic. The zoo was really nice and it was just what I needed. :D

  • My throat is extremely sore and I don't know why. I'm not sick at all. But it hurts so much, and I can barely swallow anything. It is really excruciating. Why won't it stop hurting!?

  • Is [livejournal.com profile] ontd_ozy turning into [livejournal.com profile] doctorwho!? Someone just posted a picture of a pair of purple shoes. And that was it. Seriously. Does this mean that I could post a purple t-shirt and that would be okay because Ozymandias wears purple too? wtf, y'all?

  • I still haven't watched Ashes to Ashes, but I hope to watch it tomorrow or this weekend. I'm so excited! I've missed that show so much!

God, this whole post was like just a bunch of tweets. Do I think in tweets now? I'll try to write a better post tomorrow...

I got a new computer! It's a Compaq. It has a DVD burner, 2gb of memory, and a 260gb hard drive. It cost me $450, and I lurve it so much. It's everything I've always wanted in a computer. So much space! It's so freaking pretty, and it's the first computer I've ever bought. I'm quite pleased. :D I can't get my old computer to start up, but I think it might be a display issue so I'm going to try to plug it into a monitor so I can try to get some files off of it. Luckily, I've been moving stuff to my external hard drive pretty regularly, so I'm only missing files that I downloaded in the last 2 weeks and there weren't that many. It would also be nice to get my bookmarks. I lost all of my fic bookmarks, included my 4 folders of BoB fic. I don't read them as often, but they were handy to have for recs and stuff.

I just had this flash of inspiration for my Gender and Mass Media paper, and it felt good. I have an idea of what I can write now, and even if my professor shoots some of my ideas down, at least I came up with something! I think what I have in mind is relevant, and I think he'll be able to help me expand on it and it feels so good to not be terrified over that paper. :D I have to remember that great, "YES!" feeling because I think that can keep me going and keep me wanting to write rather than dreading writing anything ever.

I went to my counseling appointment today and it went really well. I like my counselor a lot, she's really nice and funny. I'm sad she's graduating this semester and I'll have to switch to another counselor when I get back from London.

My professor in Gender and Mass Media talked about our final paper today. Sort of dreading it. I think I'm going to talk about Beatriz Colomina's essay about domestic space and relate it to sitcoms. I'm going to have to reread the piece a lot because it is really difficult, and I'm going to need to understand it really well. Sooooo scary. D:

Apparently, the paper is due on April 30, which is the day before my Political Ideologies final exam, which is the last thing I have to do and the first day of finals week. So, I won't have to worry about a bunch of shit during finals week and I can just focus on packing for London! Unfortunately, this just means I have to deal with doing a bunch of shit the week before finals week. If I manage my time well, this shouldn't be a problem. This weekend I'm going to read the Colomina article and I'm going to do research for my Political Ideologies paper. The weekend after that I'm going to write my Political Ideologies paper, and the weekend after that I'm going to do my Italian take home final and hopefully write a good amount of my Gender and Mass Media paper.

I hate school. And I feel so lazy for hating school when so many people work and have bigger courseloads.

And to make up for the boring school post, I'll use my awesome new MST3K icon. MITCHELL!

I committed to the diet that [livejournal.com profile] pepperlandgirl4 is doing. I've been eating salads for lunch and I eat the same dinner as she does, but last week I also ate cereal in the morning and I gave into temptation whenever I wanted chocolate and ice cream. I decided to give that stuff up so I could just lose some freaking weight already. I think I've gained about 35 pounds since I graduated high school, and I'm just tired of it. I feel like I get bigger every day. I ultimately decided to stick to it when Haley said she doesn't have such a big appetite anymore. I feel like I'm constantly hungry and it's annoying. Also, when I'm hungry at school I end up giving in and buying a $5 sandwich or wrap, so this can at least help me save a little bit of money. My main goal: lose a good amount of weight before going to London. Also, lose enough weight to fit into my favorite denim skirt, which is a size 16. I know that's not a big goal since it's just a size or two down, but I love that skirt so much and I miss wearing it.

In other news: I'm developing a crush on Gene Kelly. I just want to watch Gene Kelly movies all day.

Now, I must do some Italian homework!

Today I wrote my Italian paper and I wrote the one page personal statement I needed to write for my study abroad application. Do you know what that means? My application is finished! All I have to do is turn it in on Monday! Also, I cleaned my bathroom. So, I feel like I accomplished something today. Tomorrow I just have to do some reading. And a blog post on my class comm. I really don't like having to make two posts a week, but being in the habit of writing is good, so I'll deal.

The first month is up on my 2009 teevee challenge. I watched a total of 150 episodes of television. Yeah, I don't think getting to 500 will take me a year to do.

I made more macros! Another bunch of West Wing and It's Always Sunny )

I had to leave the house to catch my bus in the middle of Obama's speech, but fortunately I have a radio in my MP3 player so I got to listen to the rest of the Inauguration. :D It was an incredible speech and I still can't quite believe it really happened. Bush is actually gone, it's astonishing.

Today in class my professor said that we should enjoy this feeling because it's a rare moment in our lives where we actually feel human.

I usually don't do year in reviews beyond the meme that I did in the last post, but I figured I'd do a quicky.

I finished my first year at the UofU and I started my second.

I got a 4.0, finally.

I saw Wilco 3 times and met Jeff Tweedy.

I saw Andrew Bird, Tilly and the Wall, Neko Case, Retribution Gospel Choir, and The Fleet Foxes.

I went to California, twice, both times very fun and awesome. The first time I went, I went to PCA/ACA conference with Haley and Jasie, and it was geek/nerd heaven for me.

I went to Idaho for the first time. Not remarkable, I know, but it was still a new place.

I VOTED for the first time! Late August to November were crazy, and politics became my new crack.

I declared my major.

TV I watched and enjoyed muchly/squeed over: Life on Mars, Ashes to Ashes, Torchwood, Doctor Who, Classic Doctor Who, It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia, 30 Rock, Top Gear, QI, Peep Show, That Mitchell and Webb Look, Californication, Weeds, Secret Diary of a Call Girl, and The West Wing.

Movies I watched for the first time: Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Fight Club, Clerks 2, 12 Monkeys, Burn After Reading, Tropic Thunder, The Dark Knight, The Philadelphia Story (and many many other Cary Grant movies), American Psycho, The Dreamers, The Exorcist, Nosferatu, The 2nd X-Files movie, Planet Terror, Death Proof, The Queen, Waitress, True Stories, Diary of the Dead, and Willow. Probably more, but I can't remember them at the moment. Oh, and I've watched half of Apocalypse Now: Redux over the last few days. Watching that movie is like reading Heart of Darkness: I can only handle so much before I want to take a nap.

Books I read: Mostly just stuff for school, but in the summer I read Misery. Yeah I suck at reading when I'm not required to, but I read a lot of awesome things for my classes, that I am apparently far too lazy to list them.

Overall grade for 2008: A- It was pretty kickass for me I think. I know I've forgotten stuff in this post, since I tried to type it up in 20 minutes.

Well, I'm off to Salt Lake with my mom so I can get a ride to Staci's party in Ogden from Flora. I wish I had a car.

Happy New Year everybody!

I've been watching The West Wing and falling in and out of sleep on the couch. It's been nice, and whenever I wake up to see the two dogs passed out either next to me or on me, I blame them for my sleepiness. The only reason I can't stay awake is because 8:00 a.m. is their crazy hour where they run around and bark like idiots. And I was stupid enough to stay up until 3:00 last night. Apparently I can't survive on 5 hours of sleep during my winter break.

Breaking news in my sleepy naptime post: OMG I GOT A 4.0!!!!!!1111!!!ELEVENTY!!!!

YES! SUCK IT, FALL 2008! YOU ALMOST KILLED ME, BUT I WON!

Ahem. Now, I think I'm going to finally relax, and I'm not going to feel guilty anymore about doing nothing but watching The West Wing and taking naps. In fact, I think I might just go crazy and make a mix.

EDIT: VISUAL PROOF! :DDD

I really really hope I'm right, because if I am, this means it will be the first time I EVER got a 4.0 in MY ENTIRE LIFE! I never even managed to get a 4.0 in high school! omg yay! :D

So there's a new newspaper at my school, and it makes me lol so much. It's called The Sentinel and someone left a copy on the table I ate lunch at today, so I read the front page which described the purpose of the paper, and a few of the articles. It is a paper for 'intellectual conservatives' to express their opinions. What I've read was really badly written, and there was a sentence that was just a big confusing clusterfuck and I really wish I could remember the exact words. It said something like, "We'll let you know when things are going right, and we will inform you when things are not going right." That may not be exact, but it was that awkward and the word 'right' was definitely used, and that's what confuses me. Do they mean well? Or right-wing? If they meant 'well' then that is just awkward as fuck.

There was another sentence that really made me lol, I don't remember it word for word, but it was basically, "You might feel like you're the only one [conservative] on campus, but you're not alone!"

WHAT? There are conservatives at the University of Utah!? I AM SHOCKED! SHOCKED! The UofU is a bit left-leaning, but I honestly do not believe that there is a shortage of conservatives at this university. We are no Berkeley.

I have a theory: they started The Sentinel because The Chronicle didn't accept their shitty writing, which is saying something since the caliber of writing in The Chronicle is not that spectacular, and they called liberal oppression.

It's hard out in Utah for a conservative, they can't express their opinions! Except for the fact that they express their opinions all the damn time and are in charge of the state!

On the roadtrip to and from California Haley and I listened to Al Franken's The Truth (With Jokes), which was very awesome. Hilarious, very very informative, and it had a good hopeful message even though it was wading through the shit that was the 2004 election and the Bush administration. As I was listening to it, I realized that I had no idea who the Secretary of Defense is now that Rumsfeld is gone. And tonight I realized I had no idea who replaced Alberto Gonzales as Attorney General. I was rather surprised, I feel like I should know shit like that. But I guess we don't really find out about these guys unless they fuck up massively... wait, have the new guys fucked up massively and I didn't notice because I was too absorbed in DW fandom? I'm guessing no, I don't think I was that oblivious to the world of politics. So um, yeah, there's your random incredibly unimportant story for the day.

And now for something somewhat related: I'm going to vote tomorrow! One of the early voting locations in Salt Lake happens to be in the same building as my last class. I seriously just have to walk down a flight of stairs and I'm there. I wasn't going to let my laziness stop me from voting of course, I'm very excited about the whole thing, but it's nice that I don't have to put hardly any effort into actually getting there.

I got my Anthropology test back today. I did not have high hopes. I thought I didn't study the right things and I felt like I just babbled through the short answer section. I was standing near the TA while he was passing the tests back, and I saw a lot of the scores that people got. There were 35 points possible, and I kept on seeing a lot of 17s and 20-somethings, so I was kind of worried, but I got 32 out of 35! \o/

In other awesome news: I got an email today from the Utah Academic Decathlon saying that they never sent my $100 scholarship that I got from them to the UofU, so I'm going to be getting $100 soon! Woo!

Today in the Union Building there were these cardboard cutouts of Obama and McCain, (I kind of want to steal the Obama cardboard so we can have Obama, Spike and Gay!Angel in our living room) and next to the cutouts, there were two large pads with markers attached to them. So, I wrote on McCain's "Voted against the Violence Against Women Act," "Karl Rove's Puppet," and "Palin does not care about women."

Not that eloquent, I know, but it was a bit more eloquent than the other thing that was on the pad at the time: "I HATE YOU OLD MAN!"

Last night I watched the Eighth Doctor Movie, and I think it wasn't that bad. I think it was the equivalent of an 'okay' episode of New Who. I liked the Eighth Doctor, it made me want to read some of the Eighth Doctor books and listen to some of the audios. Grace was cool too. I thought the line, "I've finally found the right man, and he's an alien!" was just total and utter shit, but that's not the character's fault. It was a corny line put in a scene in which it made no sense, and was probably just put in there for use in ads, but the stupidity of it really bugged me.

The main problem was obviously, the Master. People who think John Simm, or even Ainley, were campier than Eric Roberts are crazy. The snake thing was just so silly. The fact that he could spit venom made me laugh. Especially when the Doctor and Grace run into a room and there are four security guards standing there completely covered in the Master's venom. Can you imagine how much venom he had to hawk up for that? Christ that's disgusting. And hilarious. If someone who could actually act had played the Master, and if the whole snake thing was taken out, the movie would have been sooo much better.

I'm procrastinating at the moment. I finally figured out what I'm going to write for my Intellectual Traditions paper, so now that everything is so simple and it will be so easy to write, I can't be bothered to actually write it. It's due on Tuesday, so my brain is like, "You can do it tomorrow! Chillax!" And I totally agree.
