My Gender class was incredibly boring today. She showed a DVD called, "How To Avoid Plagiarism" which of course is important, but christ, soooo boring. Then we talked about this little article she had us read about how to retain more information while you read. It was pretty interesting but you could tell it was written for people out of college who just read for pleasure. It wasn't really relevant to college students who are assigned reading, at all. I feel like my professor in that class is still getting through the introduction to the class. I just wish she'd move on. She's still saying things like, "In this course we'll be talking about gender, sexual orientation, race, cultures, ability and disability and how they meet." And I've gotten to the point where I'm like, "Well start talking about them! GAH!"
I don't think I'd notice how boring my Gender class is if my American Institutions class wasn't so awesome. We're already into big lectures and readings in that class which I am just loving. I forgot how much I fucking love US History, it can be so fascinating. I read this article for class about commodity fetishism and sexual fetishism regarding slaves and it was so fucked up and so fascinating. This article said that a slave trader's uncle, "was staying out late every night, engaged in 'very boyish' behavior with some women, probably from their 'stock.'" JESUS FUCK that got me angry. For a few obvious reasons of course, these women were referred to as stock, which makes the quote really fucked up because these men treated these people as objects and animals but were totally fine with raping them just for weird power trips. Then there's that term, 'very boyish behavior' wtf is that shit? I hate that rationale of "boys will be boys." It pisses me off so much that people could get away with it back then and they still get away with it now. "Boys can't control themselves girls! So don't wear short skirts or show cleavage or you're asking for it!" But I digress! Back to the class. I missed lectures involving overheads and charts and maps and the fucked-upedness of this country's history. It reminds me of my high school US History class, which I just adored, but at a college level. It's so great. I love that class so far.
I am so glad that my week is over. All I did today when I got home was dick around on the computer. My fast fast computer. I played Sims 2 and it didn't take 20 minutes to load. I was shocked. So yeah, this afternoon and evening wasn't that productive but tomorrow all I plan on doing is working on blurbs so here's hoping I'll be a bit more productive. I also have to do an Art assignment this weekend. I get to do a continuous blind drawing of my face for an hour. I can do the hour in increments but yeah, this should be interesting.
